More Than 100 Tarrant County Cases on Hold During Investigation Into Fort Worth Police Scientist

More than 100 criminal cases in Tarrant County are on hold during an investigation into a Fort Worth police forensic scientist over allegations that she falsified a DNA test.The Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported that the employee, Amanda Schaffner, was placed on leave as the department investigates allegations that she didn't do a quality control test and attempted to cover it up.Fort Worth police spokesman Jimmy Pollozani said the internal affairs unit was investigating a complaint about an employee of the department's crime lab."Since the investigation is active and ongoing, we are unable to release any details at this time," he wrote in an email. "The Forensic Science Commission has been notified in accordance with state law."In documents obtained by the Star-Telegram, Schaffner denied wrongdoing.  Continue reading...
