Miller, Gates Exchange Sharp Jabs at First Debate in High-profile Dallas City Council Race

Dallas City Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates and her challenger, former Mayor Laura Miller, exchanged sharp verbal jabs Thursday in their first debate, which focused heavily on development in their North Dallas district.During the lunch-hour debate at Maggiano’s Little Italy at NorthPark Center, Miller accused Gates of largely ignoring proposals for a compromise over a disputed tract of land north of Preston Center. And Gates fired back that Miller is running to protect her own property interests.The two candidates have been at odds for years over the zoning at Preston Center and in the surrounding area.
