Mesquite Officer Accidentally Fired Gun in Horn High School, Police Say

A Mesquite police officer will be subject to internal discipline for accidentally firing his handgun at Horn Nigh School Thursday morning, according to the department.The officer, whose name was not released, was trying to inspect his handgun in the School Resource Officer office around 11:45 a.m., police said. He removed the magazine, but neglected to empty the chamber and accidentally fired a round.The round "ricocheted off the concrete floor and disintegrated," according to a written statement from the department.No students or faculty members were in the office at the time, and nobody was injured, police said.  Continue reading...
