Man Who Left Dog to Starve to Death in Fort Worth Apartment Gets 1 Year in Jail

A Fort Worth man has been sentenced to one year in state jail after he left his dog to starve to death when he moved out of his apartment last year.Justin Ryan Rubio, 30, had previously pleaded guilty to one count of cruelty to non-livestock animals — torture.An apartment manager at the Monticello Crossroads apartments found Rubio's pit bull mix, Tara, dead on March 4, 2016 — several weeks after Rubio moved out. No food or water had been left for her.Rubio, a bartender, admitted to authorities that he had abandoned the dog and said he had even driven to Oklahoma to party with friends while Tara was stuck in the apartment."There are no words that can accurately describe Tara's suffering in that apartment," prosecutor Kacey Fickes said in a statement.
