Man Waited for a Woman in the Back Seat of Her Unlocked Vehicle in Old East Dallas, Police Say

Dallas police are encouraging people to be vigilant after a man reportedly got into a woman's unlocked vehicle Saturday in Old East Dallas and waited for her. The man was seen about 12:30 a.m. looking for unlocked vehicles in the Walgreen's parking lot in the 5700 block of Mockingbird Lane. Once he found one, he reportedly got into the back seat and waited for the owner to come out. When the woman got into her vehicle and began to leave the parking lot, the man emerged and pointed an unknown object at her and threatened her, police said. The man then demanded that she drive him to two separate ATMs and withdraw money from her account, police said. After taking her money, he reportedly told her to drive him to an area thought to be near Mercedes Avenue and Matilda Street. The woman was not injured. Police are encouraging citizens to remain vigilant, keep their vehicles locked and look inside the vehicle before entering.Anyone with information about this incident or any similar incidents in the area is asked to call Dallas police at 214-671-3584.
