Man Suspected of Firing at Police After Bar Shooting Is Caught in Dallas Following 2-day Manhunt

A West Texas man is behind bars in Dallas after a nearly two-day manhunt across the state following a bar shooting.Encarnaicio Ortiz Jr., 49, of Haskell was arrested in southern Dallas late Monday, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. He was being held Tuesday at the Dallas County Jail on a charge of aggravate assault on a public servant with a deadly weapon, with bail set at $1 million.Authorities were called to a bar in Haskell, about 50 miles north of Abilene, around 12:45 a.m. Sunday after someone walked in and fired several shots.Haskell police found Ortiz, who they suspected in the incident, driving his car in the north part of town.The officers tried to pull over Ortiz's vehicle, then rammed it when he didn't stop. He then fired on the officers, who shot back, authorities said.Ortiz drove a short distance away after the shooting and then got out of his car and ran off, authorities said.After a manhunt involving Haskell police, Texas game wardens and U.S. Marshals, Ortiz was located in southern Dallas late Monday and taken into custody.No one was reported injured in either shooting incident.  Continue reading...
