Man Reportedly Fatally Shot While Driving His 6-year-old Nephew in Houston

A man was reportedly fatally shot while driving his 6-year-old nephew in northeast Houston Tuesday night. The man was shot once in the chest while in the car with the boy in the intersection of Swan River Drive and Bending Oaks Street, near Interstate 69 and Mt. Houston Road, about 7 p.m. He tried to drive away before crashing into a fire hydrant down the block, which spewed water. Bystanders immediately rushed to help the boy, Houston Det. David Crowder said. The victim, 35-year-old Cornelius Williams, was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he died, The Houston Chronicle reports. Williams is identified by The Chronicle as the boy's uncle. The boy was transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure, but it appears that he's OK, Crowder said.
