Man Gets Life in Prison for Shooting Small-business Owner Outside Plano Home

The first of three suspects to stand trial in the slaying of a businessman outside his Plano home was found guilty of capital murder Wednesday morning.Brandon Davis, 24, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.Davis, of Mesquite, was arrested in February 2018, nearly two weeks after he left 56-year-old Ahmed Omar lying in the front lawn of Omar's home on McAlice Drive near Coit Road in Plano with multiple gunshot wounds.Investigators say Davis, along with Ladrida Diann Bagley and Wilbert Scales Jr., planned to rob Omar outside the Pleasant Grove convenience store he owned, but saw a Dallas police cruiser nearby and decided to follow him home instead. When they confronted Omar in his front yard around 1 a.m., Davis thought he was reaching for a weapon and fired four shots at him.Omar died before police arrived.A cellphone and laptop were strewn in the grass, and Omar's children told police that his black briefcase, in which he stored cash and a pistol, was missing.Police traced Scales' car to the scene, where a neighbor's vehicle had been hit. Scales, 24, told police that Davis had asked him to help rob an "easy mark," according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.Scales and Bagley, 49, are both awaiting trial in Collin County.  Continue reading...
