Man Arrested in Austin for Rape at New Orleans Hotel, 3 More Suspects May Be in Texas, Police Say

One man was arrested in Austin in conection with a gang rape reported at a New Orleans hotel, and police are looking for three other suspects. Patrick Mooney was arrested March 6 in Austin and extradited to New Orleans. The 25-year-old, who has a driver's license from Dublin, Ireland, was charged with first-degree rape, NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reported. New Orleans police have obtained warrants for three more men — David Campbell, Niall Carr and James Palmer — who are thought to be in Texas, the Times-Picayune reported. The woman told police she met Mooney at the Funky 544 bar on Bourbon Street in November and went with him to his hotel room, according to an arrest warrant.After they started having sex, six or seven men came into the hotel room and took turns sexually assaulting her, according to the affidavit. They also reportedly hit and slapped her. The woman said she drifted in and out of consciousness during the attack and was later helped by a couple who saw her crying on the phone with a friend, the New Orleans Advocate reported. Mooney told a detective that he and as many as three of his friends had "sexual contact" with the woman, whom he described as being intoxicated, the Advocate reported.
