‘All We Could Do Was Run’: Witnesses Recount Monday’s Downtown Dallas Shooting

Armando and Olga Avenando heard gunshots just seconds after they entered the Earle Cabell Federal Building through its Jackson Street entrance.A guard ran in behind them. A handful of people followed, stumbling and falling over each other.“He’s coming! He’s got an automatic weapon!” Armando heard the guard yell.The Avenandos ran past the security checkpoint. Guards inside prepared to return fire on Brian Isaack Clyde, the 22-year-old man who attacked the courthouse Monday morning.“He started shooting at [the guards] and all we could do was run,” Olga said, a look of disbelief on her face when authorities allowed the couple to leave the courthouse hours after the scene had been secured.Chaos reigned inside and around the federal building as building visitors and area residents tried to avoid gunfire Monday morning before authorities shot and killed Clyde.  Continue reading...
