Longtime Judge Known for Creating Drug Courts Leading in Democratic Primary for Dallas DA

John Creuzot took an early lead Tuesday in the race to become the Democratic candidate for Dallas County district attorney. The longtime state district judge is known for pioneering diversion programs focused on treating drug abuse and mental illness. He faced former judge Elizabeth Davis Frizell, who boasted about grassroots support. Creuzot said the first thing he'll do after the primary: "Get some sleep."He estimated he had knocked on 2,000 doors during his yearlong campaign to become the Democratic candidate. He outraised and outspent Frizell. But during the final week of early voting, Frizell gained the attention of national writer and civil rights activist Shaun King, who urged people to donate to her. Within six days, a California political action committee raised $100,000 for the Dallas candidate.
