Local Governments Align to Oppose Gov. Abbott's Property Tax Cap — Except Collin County

AUSTIN — Mayors, county judges, city police officers and other local elected officials from across Texas held a news conference Tuesday to sound the alarm on Gov. Greg Abbott's proposal to curb local property tax growth, saying vital governmental services would be compromised.But in North Texas, the Collin County commissioners went the other way. On Monday afternoon, the five-member board passed a unanimous resolution backing the House and Senate bills that are intended to give property owners tax relief — making them a rare supportive voice among a wash of local officials who oppose the bills.
