Lifting the Curtain on This Year's Roller-coaster Texan of the Year Selection Process

Selecting the 15th annual Dallas Morning News Texan of the Year was a bit of a roller-coaster ride. There were moments of adrenaline-charged anticipation, as well as pure revulsion.The anticipation sprang from the many impressive and unexpected names that made positive contributions to our state in 2017. For example, I loved learning about astronaut Peggy Whitson and her leadership and accomplishments.The revulsion? That was reserved for white supremacist Richard Spencer, who received dishonorable mention for his noxious influence on our public discourse.   Continue reading...
