Kimbell Art Museum Acquires Rare Piece of Modern Sculpture in Obtaining Its First Work by Modigliani

For the Kimbell Art Museum, it represents a first, in more ways than one.Kimbell officials announced this week that they have acquired their first work by Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920). Head, as it's called, was created in 1913 and is what Kimbell officials describe as "a masterpiece of modern sculpture."It is also the first piece of modern sculpture "to take its place within the galleries designed by" Kimbell architect Louis I. Kahn. "This is one of the most significant gifts the Kimbell has ever received," director Eric M. Lee said in a statement. "I will be forever grateful to Gwen Weiner for her extraordinary generosity, which will enrich the visitor experience at the Kimbell Art Museum for generations to come."  Continue reading...
