Judge Denies Feds' Request to Keep Dwaine Caraway Out of Prison Until He Testifies Against Developer

A federal judge on Thursday denied a joint request by the U.S. Attorney and Dwaine Caraway's lawyer to delay the former mayor pro tem's sentencing, which is set for Friday afternoon.Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Wirmani made the request Thursday, writing that Caraway is "a key witness against Ruel Hamilton." Hamilton is the developer indicted in February on two counts of bribery concerning a local government receiving federal benefits. Feds accuse Hamilton, chairman and founder of low-income housing developer AmeriSouth Realty Group, of paying $40,000 to former Dallas City Council member Carolyn Davis to get an affordable-housing project through council.  Continue reading...
