Joaquin Castro Backs Colin Allred for Congress, Lillian Salerno Calls for Six Debates

As Colin Allred gains steam in the Democratic race for Congressional District 32, his rival for the seat, Lillian Salerno, is pushing for six debates.Allred on Tuesday announced the support of Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio. It's one of several recent high profile people or groups backing Allred, including the Congressional Black Caucus, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and former U.S. Trade Rep. Ron Kirk.The congressional seat, held by longtime incumbent Republican Pete Sessions, has long been coveted by national and local Democrats. It's expected to be one of the most expensive, hard-fought House races in the country."Colin is committed to expanding access to education, healthcare and jobs and he's speaking to the issues that matter to everyday Texans," Castro said in a statement released Tuesday. "I need Colin with me in Congress so we can take back the House and make sure all hard-working families have the opportunity to reach their American Dream."A day before Castro's announcement, Salerno challenged Allred to six debates before the May 22 runoff election.
