‘I've Seen This Movie Before': John Wiley Price Invokes MLK in Rant Against Parkland Hospital

Invoking the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price railed Tuesday about racial disparities in healthcare and accused Parkland Memorial Hospital of not doing enough to address them. At a commissioners court meeting, Price quoted King, who was killed 50 years ago Wednesday: "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhumane because it results in physical death." Price turned to a Parkland leader who stood at the podium and said, "I've seen this movie before." Price said that Parkland, the county's public hospital, has been outdone by Baylor Scott & White Health, a private nonprofit. Baylor's Juanita Craft diabetes clinic in South Dallas, Price alleged, does a better job than Parkland at helping patients manage their condition and avoid hospital visits.
