‘It's Killing Me … I Can't Breathe' — Woman Rescued From Burning Home in Parker County

Parker County Sheriff's deputies and LaJunta firefighters rescued a wheelchair-bound woman from her burning home as thunderstorms swept through the area Tuesday night. The woman, who is elderly, called 911 just after 9 p.m. and said she was trapped in her house in the 200 block of Live Oak Road in Springtown, Sheriff Larry Fowler said in a news release. According to the release, the woman told the dispatcher, "It's killing me ... I can't breathe ... It's hot in here," when firefighters and sheriff's deputies arrived. The woman said the fire blocked her back door to prevent her escape and that the smoke was getting to her. "We are relieved no one was injured in this house fire," Fowler said. "The deputies, firefighters and dispatcher did a wonderful job in saving this woman from serious harm." The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
