β€˜It Was Chaos': Dallas Man Guilty of Murder in Fiery Crash That Ended Chase in Stolen Jeep

A Mesquite man on trial this week was drunk and fleeing police in a stolen SUV when he caused a deadly crash in November 2014, authorities say.Jarron Williams, 27, barely survived the fiery chain-reaction crash that killed 58-year-old Stephen Fox.He was later charged with murder, and a Dallas County judge convicted him on that charge Wednesday.Among those who testified in the one-day trial was Sgt. Jerry Allen Walzel, the Mesquite police officer who first spotted Williams in a stolen Jeep Cherokee near Town East Mall.Dashcam footage played in the courtroom showed the explosive collision when the Jeep ran a red light at Ferguson and Shiloh roads traveling around 85 mph."The suspect struck the very first vehicle," Walzel said. "It was chaos after that."The impact ruptured Fox's gas tank, killed him and ejected Williams from the Jeep. It also ignited a fireball that damaged up to 10 cars and terrified nearby motorists, including Cori White.White was inside an SUV parked at a nearby gas pump while her husband went inside to pay."We heard just a loud boom in the intersection, and I look to my right and saw a ball of fire and that van coming towards me," she said shortly after the crash.  Continue reading...
