The Dallas City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to transfer management of the Meyerson Symphony Center to the Dallas Symphony Association as part of a 99-year agreement.The deal, which takes effect July 1, arrives at a time when the Meyerson is in the worst condition of its nearly 30-year history. Most immediately, it addresses festering concerns over maintenance. The laundry list of problems includes a leaky roof and elevators that don't work. Designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei, whose creations include the glass pyramid at the Louvre, and who died last week at 102, the Meyerson and dozens of other iconic works have inspired a new wave of interest in the Pei portfolio. And yet it comes at a time when the condition of the Meyerson is anything but good.
