Every road trip from Hanna Osteen’s Arlington home to Austin involves a slight detour to the Czech Stop off Interstate 35 in West, Texas. The shop sells kolaches, pastries filled with sweet fruit jams or creams, klobásníky, filled with meat, and other treats like pecan toffee and cinnamon rolls. These pastries in West and neighboring towns are a remnant of a wave of Czech immigrants who settled in Central Texas a century ago.   Continue reading...
