Just under three weeks are left before the Amon Carter Museum of American Art closes its doors on June 3 for the summer so that renovations can kick into high-gear across its entire campus.When it reopens to the public on September 14, the campus will include overhauls to make its outdoor plaza more accessible, as well as changes inside its 1961 Philip Johnson-designed front building and the 50,000-square-foot additional structure he tacked on behind it in 2001. In the galleries, new sightlines and lighting will alter the art's display, and new movable walls will make the whole arrangement more flexible. Upstairs, the galleries will have new hardwood floors.Just announced by the museum are five featured exhibitions that will give visitors even more to look forward to inside. "Gordon Parks: The New Tide" showcases the black photographer's early work through roughly 150 photographs, as well as rare magazines, newspapers, pamphlets and books. Continue reading...
