Inmate at Large After Walking Off Work Detail Near Waxahachie

Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped after walking away from his work detail Monday morning near Waxahachie.David Weldon Rowe, 67, was using a weed trimmer on the side of the road when he strayed from the detail between FM1446 and Lone Elm Road just after 10 a.m., the Waxahachie Daily Light reported.The Ellis County Sheriff's Office is receiving assistance in the search from helicopters and planes belonging to other law-enforcement agencies.Authorities told nearby residents to remain indoors during the search."As of right now, there are multiple agencies out here," Ellis County Sheriff's Lt. Wess Winn said. "If you live in this area and leave, you are going through a checkpoint. You probably won't be allowed to return until they feel like he is not in this area."Anyone who sees Lowe, who was wearing a blue jumpsuit, is asked to call 911.Lowe, a Grand Prairie resident, was arrested last June in Midlothian on charges of driving while intoxicated and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.According to KDFW-TV (Channel 4), he was completing an alternative prison program for the DWI charge, which was his third.  Continue reading...
