In Response to Sexual Harassment Claims, Texas House Adopts New Policy

AUSTIN — After media reports detailing sexual harassment claims shook the Texas Legislature last month, House lawmakers insisted on a new policy that they adopted Friday.Rep. Charlie Geren, a Fort Worth Republican who chairs the House Administration Committee, also said he would ask Speaker Joe Straus to appoint a working group to continue hearing recommendations and revising the policy.The new rules expand on the previous policy by: Outlining what sexual harassment is. Requiring all employees and interns to complete a sexual harassment training program. Explaining two avenues to file a complaint. Providing places to go for counseling.
