In North Texas, FCC Commissioner Champions 5G as an Economic Engine

Climbers in harnesses descended from bright blue stacked shipping containers Monday morning — not to work out in a rock climbing gym, but to train for the rollout of 5G, the next-generation wireless network.The tower climber training facility in Lewisville was among the stops that Federal Communications Commission member Brendan Carr made on his two-day trip to North Texas. He also visited a wireless manufacturing plant in Euless, went to a fiber deployment in Sherman and met with a telemedicine company in Lewisville. He delivered a speech in a ballroom of tower climbers and wireless infrastructure workers at a conference for the National Association of Tower Erectors in Grapevine. And he practiced a controlled descent of his own at the Ericsson Center of Excellence, the training facility built by the Swedish telecom firm near its North American headquarters in Plano.
