How Did Dallas’ Oak Lawn Community Gets Its Start? Curious Texas Investigates

Lynn Brink said her childhood is a collection of memories at Turtle Creek and at Steven J. Hay Elementary School -- the same school her father attended as a child.Brink said her family moved to Dallas’ Oak Lawn neighborhood when she was about 10 years old in the mid-1950s. The house she lived in was built by her grandfather in the early 1900s, and currently stands in its original Avondale Avenue location.“I have fond memories,” she said. “It was in the days when you could ride your bike to school and you would tell your mother that you’d be home for dinner.
