A former Houston-area teacher was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for having sex with her 13-year-old student.Alexandria Vera, 25, was hoping for probation, but Judge Michael McSpadden said he was making an example of the former English teacher.Vera, who taught at Stovall Middle School in Aldine ISD, pleaded guilty in November to sexual assault of a child.Initially charged with continues sexual abuse of a child, which carries a possible life sentence, the plea deal capped her punishment at 30 years and made probation a possibility.But the judge said he wanted to send a message by sending Vera to prison.
