Houston-area Man Who Sent Packages to Underage Girls Not a Threat, Authorities Say

Authorities have determined the identity of a Houston-area man who they say mailed packages to girls at elementary schools in several states, KHOU-TV reported. Officials with the Harris County Sheriff's Office and the FBI have determined that the 42-year-old man, whose name wasn't released, hasn't committed any crimes and is not a threat."At this time, we are unaware of any evidence that a crime has been committed," the sheriff's office told the TV station. "We would urge anyone to come forward if they have evidence that this individual sent a child sexually explicit communications, or committed an overt sexual act with a child, or interfered with a legal guardian's custody of a child."The man sent packages to girls in several states. They contained food and and letters in which he identified himself as Atur Bhuck, a 14-year-old boy from Santa Fe, N.M., who had been bullied because of a mental disability.After some of those packages found their way to two elementary-age girls in Phenix City, Ala., last week, the local district attorney's office posted a now-deleted "predator alert" on its Facebook page.   Continue reading...
