Hidden Figures didn’t get an award at the Oscars Sunday night, but it did lead to 10 Dallas-area women being honored as Hidden Figures of Dallas by the National Society of Black Engineers.The inspiring film resonated with moviegoers for highlighting the little-known achievements by black women who played an integral role in the U.S. space program.Tiffany Johnson, president of the NSBE Dallas area chapter, said the movie inspired the organization to look for the "hidden figures" of Dallas.“By recognizing the achievements and commitment to service of 'hidden figures' in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, [the chapter] hopes to inspire young women of color and young Americans as a whole to pursue degrees and careers in STEM fields,” Johnson said.The Dallas-area chapter named 10 women as the “Hidden Figures of Dallas: Top Women of Color In STEM.” They are Jennifer Stimpson of Dallas, Yolanda Parker of Fort Worth, Sherrika Sanders of Little Elm, Leanne MetCalfe of Plano, Alexis Scott of Midlothian, Tiffany Ricks of Frisco, Victoria Brown of Irving, Kenya Wilson of Dallas, Juanita DeLoach of Plano and Sherrelle Diggs of Plano.
