Harvey Death Toll Grows as Floodwaters Drop in Houston, Rise in Beaumont

Houston awoke to blue skies Wednesday, and water levels dropped in many areas devastated by flooding. But the misery caused by Harvey lingered, as the death toll climbed and receding waters revealed more horrors. Meanwhile, the storm made landfall for a second time, striking the Texas-Louisiana border, including Beaumont and Port Arthur, causing flash floods and hundreds of rescues by boat and helicopter. Harvey, once a Category 4 hurricane, spawned at least one damaging tornado in Mississippi before slowing to a tropical depression on Wednesday.At least 25 people have been killed in Harvey's wake, and rescuers continue to search by boat for people trapped by the storm. Damage reports have started to trickle in, and the storm is expected to cost billions. In Harris County alone, home of Houston, the nation's fourth-largest city, 100,000 homes may have flooding, officials said.   Continue reading...
