Handcuffed Man Who Was Beaten So Badly He ‘grew Another Face' Sues Dallas Police

A 34-year-old man who's suing Dallas and two of its police officers over a 2014 arrest says their brutal treatment changed the course of his life. Jon McDonald was handcuffed when the two officers simultaneously punched him in the face while responding to a 911 call from his girlfriend, who wanted him out of her motel room, police records say. "His face basically looked like it grew another face because it was so swollen," the motel's security guard on duty that night told police.McDonald filed suit in 2016, accusing Dallas and the two officers of violating his constitutional rights. The lawsuit is pending in federal court, and depositions were taken in the case last week. A trial date has not been set.The case points to a challenge that police officials have talked about for years: that most officers are not well equipped to deal with people with a mental illness.   Continue reading...
