Gun Seller Asks State Supreme Court to Dismiss 4 Lawsuits by Sutherland Springs Victims' Families

A Katy-based sporting goods chain this week asked the Texas Supreme Court to reverse lower court rulings that allowed four lawsuits brought by families of the victims of the Sutherland Springs mass shooting against Academy Limited to proceed.Academy, which operates as Academy Sports + Outdoors, filed its petition with the court on Tuesday, arguing that federal laws protect it from liability for its April 2016 sale of a rifle and two magazines to gunman Devin Kelley.
