Gun Range Owner's Suit Says NRA Safety Standards Have No Place in Texas Law

KAUFMAN — Facing shutdown in a Kaufman County court, the owner of a gun range near Mesquite is challenging Texas law that links safety standards for gun ranges to those prescribed by the National Rifle Association.The Lonestar Gun Club and Redneck Resort, near the East Fork river bottom, has been closed since a September judge's order. After the range and neighbors afraid for their safety agreed to mediation — a third-party expert to specify what improvements were needed to keep bullets from flying off the range onto neighboring properties — a permanent injunction was ordered Nov. 6, requiring certain specifications be met before the range could reopen.  Continue reading...
