Grindr to Stop Sharing Users' HIV Status With Other Companies

Gay dating app Grindr has announced it will stop sharing users’ HIV status with two other companies after a European research group discovered the app’s information-sharing practices, leading to a public outcry, Axios reported Monday.Buzzfeed was the first organization to report on the data-sharing practice Monday. The two companies receiving the information were Localytics and Apptimize, which received encrypted data on users’ HIV status and last-tested date, among other details.The company initially defended the practice, saying it was necessary for app optimization and that the reports were conflating the data-sharing with the Cambridge Analytica controversy, Grindr’s chief security officer Bryce Case told Buzzfeed.  Continue reading...
