Greg Abbott Teams With Texans in Congress to Warn Trump: Don't Use Harvey Money for Border Wall

WASHINGTON -- A bipartisan group of the Texas congressional delegation has joined with Gov. Greg Abbott to warn President Donald Trump against tapping Hurricane Harvey relief funds to pay for a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.The collection of 17 Republicans, including Abbott, and six Democrats wrote to the president on Tuesday to make clear that they are "strongly opposed to using funds appropriated by Congress for disaster relief and mitigation for Texas for any unintended purpose.""We ask that you ensure necessary efforts on border security do not jeopardize long-term hurricane recover and mitigation in Texas," the group said, addressing a scenario that could come about if Trump declares a national emergency on border security.The action marks a rare point of accord between Democrats and Republicans as a record-breaking partial government shutdown stretches on amid disagreement over a proposed border wall.  Continue reading...
