Gov. Greg Abbott Sends $1 Million to Dallas Police for Protective Gear

AUSTIN -- Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday said he will send $1 million to the city of Dallas to help pay for protective gear for police officers.The grant funds come in the wake of the July 2016 ambush in downtown Dallas in which five police officers were killed when a gunman opened fire during a peaceful protest."What the attack in Dallas last year showed us is that more needs to be done to protect the brave men and women who run into danger and not away from it," Abbott said in a prepared statement.The grant brings the total Abbott's office has awarded to Dallas since the attack to more than $1.6 million, his office said.Abbott's criminal justice division also gave the city more than $900,000 to pay overtime costs associated with the shooting.  Continue reading...
