Gov. Greg Abbott Says Confederate Plaque Should Be Removed, Dallas Lawmaker Says

AUSTIN — Greg Abbott says a plaque that claims slavery was not an underlying cause of the Civil War should be removed from the state Capitol, according to a Dallas lawmaker who met with the governor on Friday."He's supportive of the plaque coming down," Rep. Eric Johnson, D-Dallas, told The Dallas Morning News. "He said in very clear and not at all uncertain terms that he is not in favor of anything being on display in the capitol that is counterfactual."Abbott's office did not immediately return requests for comment on the meeting.Johnson added the governor said he would reach out to the State Preservation Board, which maintains the Capitol and its grounds.
