Garland Firefighters Search for Woman Missing in Home Blaze

Garland firefighters are searching for an elderly woman they believe was home at the time a fire broke out Thursday morning.The fire was reported around 12:51 a.m. in the 4900 block of Collingwood Drive, and the home was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived four minutes later. Neighbors said the woman was inside at the time, but firefighters said heavy fire, the amount of debris and the structural frailty of the home made finding her impossible.The department has restarted the search with search dogs, fire officials said. Firefighters responded with two fire trucks, three fire engines and an ambulance. Later, an additional two engines and another ambulance responded. The cause of the fire is under investigation and it is unclear if the home had working smoke detectors, officials said.  Continue reading...
