From a New Muppet to Perry's Violation of the Aggie Code of Honor, Everything That Went Right and Wrong This Week

Will ethics-code scrubbing clean things up at City Hall?A hat tip to Dallas council members for coming together -- some of them begrudgingly -- to approve a revamping of the city's ethics rules. Mayor Mike Rawlings declared the spiffed-up package of laws "an amazing thing for the city" and complimented one and all on months of work. Despite the final unanimous vote, not all the elected representatives got what they wanted in the rewrite. But the top-line changes, for instance, barring successful campaign managers from lobbying city officials for one year and prohibiting council members from discussing ongoing contract bids, potentially create a more just and transparent municipal government.  Continue reading...
