Friendship Proves Golden for 3 Spelling Bee Co-champs From Dallas-Fort Worth

The three North Texas teens who won last month's national spelling bee co-champions are back in town with their families after nearly two weeks traveling from coast to coast. Their welcome home present? A hefty supply of free Golden Chick, a sponsor of the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee. The three winners — 12-year-old Abhijay Kodali of Flower Mound and 13-year-old Sohum Sukhatankar of Dallas and Rohan Raja of Irving — were celebrated for representing the region in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, where eight participants were named co-champions after correctly spelling 47 consecutive words on May 31."We knew going in this year, sending three, that there was a high possibility they'd do well, but now we know we really are a powerhouse in terms of spelling," said Monica Paul, the executive director for the Dallas Sports Commission, which has handled the regional competition for the past three years.   Continue reading...
