Former UTD Employee Indicted Over Accusation She Stole $130,000 From School

A former University of Texas at Dallas employee was indicted on a charge of theft last week over an accusation that she stole $130,000 from the institution.Linda Heard, 59, who was an administrative employee in the university's chemistry department, faces one count of theft of property between $100,000 and $200,000, a second-degree felony.University newspaper The Mercury reported that the theft took place from 2014 to 2018 and was discovered during an internal audit in May. Heard was arrested in July after a criminal investigation by campus police, UTD said in a statement. She is no longer employed by the university, where she started working in 1991, according to The Mercury.Heard faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
