Former Prison Guard Gets a Year Behind Bars for Sexual Relationship With Inmate at Dallas County Lockup

A federal judge has sentenced a former prison guard to one year and one day in prison for having a sexual relationship with an inmate.Erica McCoy, 32, pleaded guilty in August to having abusive sexual contact with an inmate at FCI Seagoville, a men's prison. She was sentenced Monday.She admitted to having regular sexual contact with the inmate beginning in summer 2017, Department of Justice officials said. The abuse began when McCoy stumbled upon the inmate while he was cleaning her office's carpet. McCoy resigned during a the criminal investigation.After completing her sentence, she will be required to register as a sex offender, officials said."Today's sentence demonstrates that corruption and abuse of power have no place in our federal prisons and will not be tolerated," Elise Chawaga, deputy assistant inspector general for investigations at the U.S. Department of Justice, said in a statement.
