Former Janitor Accused of Indecency With 6-year-old Girl at Tarrant County School

A former janitor for a Tarrant County school district has been accused of touching a 6-year-old child inappropriately at an elementary school.Lewis Wayne Rawlings, 70, of Kennedale was arrested at his home Tuesday on a charge of indecency with a child by sexual contact. He remained in the Mansfield jail Wednesday, with bail set at $10,000.Kennedale police and Kennedale ISD officials started investigating in late December after a teacher reported seeing Rawlings touch the girl in a hallway at Delaney Elementary School. The teacher removed the child from the situation and Rawlings was escorted off school property, police said.Rawlings is no longer employed by the district.In an email to parents, the district said that "student safety is and will continue to be a priority in Kennedale ISD."Rawlings, who worked for the district for about 30 years, is listed as a winner of Kennedale ISD's Wonderful, Outstanding Wildcat Award — which recognizes employees "for the positive things they do for children and the district" — in August 2018 and October 2017.
