Former A&M Quarterback Johnny Manziel's Misdemeanor Assault Charge Is Dismissed

Johnny Manziel's two-year-old assault case is now a thing of the past, court records show.Earlier this month, records show, a judge dismissed a misdemeanor assault charge against the former A&M quarterback.Manziel was accused of kidnapping, beating and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend in January 2016. The ex said the alleged abuse, during a fight over another woman, left her deaf in one ear.The maximum punishment for a conviction on the misdemeanor charge would have been a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.But Manziel reached an agreement last year with the Dallas County district attorney's office to get his misdemeanor assault charge dismissed if he agreed to a set of conditions that included rehab and anger management help.It appears he's completed those requirements. The charge was dismissed this month, records show.The Dallas County judge said at a hearing earlier this year that he was concerned Manziel wasn't taking the opportunity to get his charged dismissed seriously.But the formerly troubled football star assured the judge he was trying to turn his life around."Everything has been going extremely smoothly and my life is trending upward," Manziel told a Dallas County judge earlier this year. "... I need to get my life in order."Manziel has since met the commissioner of the Canadian Football League to talk about the possibility of playing there.
