For Now, at Least, City Hall Is Sticking With VisitDallas Even After Highly Critical Audit

Dallas City Council members on Tuesday delivered a much-anticipated scolding of VisitDallas officials following a blistering audit released last month. But in the end, what some believed might be a thrashing was more of a hand-slapping. Three of the five members who attended the council's Government Performance & Financial Management Committee meeting voted against canceling the city's contract with the convention-and-visitors-bureau — at least on Tuesday. The full council will be briefed on the audit in coming weeks, at which point an entirely different outcome is possible.Far North Dallas' Sandy Greyson, who will be term-limited out of office in May, said afterward she voted against termination to "give everyone a chance" to implement the laundry list of 18 recommendations made by the auditor and city staff.  Continue reading...
