Follow Live: Texas Senate to Debate Confederate Monuments Bill

AUSTIN — The Texas Senate is expected to debate a bill on Tuesday that would take away cities and universities' power to remove Confederate monuments and other historical memorials.Currently, city councils and county officials can vote to remove local historical monuments. Senate Bill 1663 by Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, would shift this power to voters in the area. Removing, relocating or altering any monument or memorial in place for longer than 25 years would require their approval.The Dallas Morning News will be covering the debate on Tuesday.
