Flu-related Deaths Spike in Dallas County, With 7 Reported in a Month

Flu-related symptoms have caused the deaths of seven Dallas County residents in the past month, a spike that health officials worry could make this season worse than other recent years."It's hard to predict an exact number, but we'll probably see more flu-related deaths," said Zachary Thompson, director of Dallas County Health and Human Services.Five of the fatal cases were reported this week, though Thompson said those patients did not all died in the past week. The latest victim was an 89-year-old Carrollton resident who died of complications from the seasonal flu. This is the second Carrollton resident to die this year from the flu."Our sympathies go to the families and loved ones of the individual who has passed away," Thompson said.The other six deaths were reported in Dallas, Coppell and University Park.  Continue reading...
