Flashback: Plan for Deep Ellum Stirred Conflict in 1984

Editor's note: Take a look back into the archives of The Dallas Morning News.Today, Deep Ellum is a colorful area full of bars, places to eat and entertainment. Thirty-three years ago, Deep Ellum was reviving and becoming a space for alternative art and living. Around this time in 1984, City Council officials and landowners were trying to determine the future landscape of Deep Ellum. The Deep Ellum Plan designated that Deep Ellum maintain low-rise warehouses and legalized homes and studios established by artists, and essentially, preserved its history.
