Flashback: Cowboys Won First Thanksgiving Game in 1966

Editor's note: Take a look back in The Dallas Morning News archives.As people anticipate carving the turkey and taking that first bite of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, the real star of the show is the annual Thanksgiving football game. The Dallas Cowboys have traditionally played on Thanksgiving Day; however, that wasn't always the case. The Cowboys made their first Thanksgiving appearance in 1966, thanks to general manager Tex Schramm. Fans crowded the Cotton Bowl to watch the team the Cleveland Browns 26-14.
