Fire That Started on Balcony Destroys Units at Far East Dallas Complex

Eight units were destroyed Thursday evening in a fire at a Far East Dallas apartment complex, officials say. Firefighters were called about 6:30 p.m. to the Bella Vista Pointe Apartments in the 2900 block of Dilido Road, near John West Road.When they arrived, flames were coming from the roof. Investigators determined the fire began on the balcony of a third-floor apartment and spread into the attic and then the entire roof, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said. A woman and her child were in the apartment that the fire originated in but escaped. No injuries were reported.The fire was quickly brought under control, but the flames damaged eight of the 24 units and displaced an unknown number of residents, Evans said.
